Have you seen the movie 28 days later? Near the end, where the fellow is looking into the sky, sees a plane, and is reminded that there actually is life outside of your little bubble. That conversations are carried out thousands of feet above you, or across the ocean. I felt like that watching this jet fly over today, like when you look at the stars and think how big, and yet small everything is.

On a different note, you'll never believe what I found on the island today.

Mimosa pudica, my favourite plant in the world, right underneath my nose. It grows wild in China! For those who don't know, when you touch the plant, its leaves fold up and wilt, only to minutes later regain posture.

The swell from Typhoon Mirinae (which passed us completely) caused large waves to break on the coast today. It's very windy at times, but should subside by tomorrow, when I'll be tanning by the pool and swimming.

There's a cyclone formation alert for north of the Phillipines, but I have no idea what that means.

Walked to a war memorial nearby today; the trees really cut down on the noise pollution.

Many different kinds of trees, some really exotic ones. Also a few short paths through some dark woods.

Can you imagine climbing this tree?

This was the perfect place to come eat a lunch or play some games, like these old men. Chinese chess is something I'd still like to learn.

Jusco, the store with more. A basic grocery store that, at times, is cheap, while other things like vegetables are a quarter the price at little shoppes or in alleys. Just the building alone is intimidating.

The view is from opposite my bus stop, on Fenghuang Rd., a fairly major artery in Xianjo district.

Because it was so windy, I ended my walk at the island. Many fall flowers blooming, including this hibiscus; very colorful time of year.

The wind has taken a lot of the haze away and left skies that remind me of Saskatchewan, with all the cirrus clouds. Except for tomorrow's forecasted high of 20 degrees, we're staying stable at 25-28 daily celcius.

Take care, leave a comment
